How to study Applied Chemistry — Semester II, Pokhara University BECE
What it covers
Chemistry for engineering: atomic structure and chemical bonding, electrochemistry, corrosion, water treatment, fuels, polymers and engineering materials.
Topics worth extra time
- Atomic structure, chemical bonding and coordination compounds
- Electrochemistry: cells, electrode potentials and batteries
- Corrosion and its prevention
- Water: hardness, its measurement and treatment
- Fuels, polymers and engineering materials
How to study it
Group topics by theme and make short comparison tables (for example, types of corrosion, or methods of water softening). Practise the numerical parts, such as hardness calculations and cell potentials, until the steps are routine.
In the exam
Use reactions, labelled diagrams and tables wherever they fit, since they show understanding quickly. Learn definitions precisely, and show units in every calculation.
