How to study Computer Workshop — Semester I, Pokhara University BECE
What it covers
Hands-on computer hardware, software and networking: PC components and assembly, installing operating systems and applications, troubleshooting common hardware and software faults, and basic network setup.
Topics worth extra time
- Components inside a PC: motherboard, CPU, memory, storage, power supply and expansion cards
- Assembling and disassembling a computer safely
- Installing and configuring operating systems and common software
- Troubleshooting common hardware and software faults
- Basic networking: cabling, IP configuration and sharing resources
How to study it
Workshop is a practical course, so the best preparation is hands-on time: open a machine, identify each part and put it back together, and install an operating system from scratch at least once. Keep a short lab record of each task, what went wrong and how you fixed it.
In the exam
Assessment is mostly practical and viva, so be ready to explain what each component does and why each step in a procedure matters, not just how to do it.
