How to study Embedded System — Semester V, Pokhara University BECE

What it covers

Design of dedicated computer systems: microcontrollers, embedded programming, interfacing sensors and actuators, real-time systems and scheduling, and embedded system design methods.

Topics worth extra time

  1. Characteristics and design challenges of embedded systems
  2. Microcontroller architecture and programming
  3. Interfacing sensors, actuators and displays
  4. Real-time systems and RTOS concepts
  5. Communication protocols such as UART, SPI and I²C

How to study it

Build things. A small project on an Arduino or similar board (read a sensor, drive a motor, show data on a display) teaches more than reading. Understand timing, interrupts and how protocols move bits.

In the exam

Use block diagrams for system design questions, and explain trade-offs (cost, power, speed). Short code examples help when explaining interfacing.
