How to study Simulation & Modeling — Semester VI, Pokhara University BECE

What it covers

Modelling and simulating systems: continuous and discrete system simulation, queuing systems, probability concepts, random number generation and testing, and analysis of simulation output.

Topics worth extra time

  1. Systems, models and types of simulation
  2. Random number generation and testing for randomness
  3. Monte Carlo simulation
  4. Queueing systems and their simulation
  5. Discrete event simulation, and verification and validation of models

How to study it

Write small simulations in C or Python (random numbers, a single-server queue, a Monte Carlo estimate) as the lab does. Practise queueing formulas and randomness tests on numerical examples.

In the exam

Simulation tables must be complete and neat. State the formulas used in queueing problems and interpret the result.
